Question
I was wondering, how old are the strawberries we see in grocery stores? I know it depends on which state we're talking about, but for example, I'm in Denver, CO. Are the strawberries a week old by the time I buy them?
Answer
Strawberries from California are picked and shipped 0 to 1 day from harvest. It take maximum 3 to 4 days to get to the East Coast, only 1 day to Denver. Then 1-2 more days to get into the grocery store. Maximum 7 days from harvest, minimum 4 days in East Coast markets and 2 days for Denver stores.
